Fall fishing in the Myrtle Beach area has been fantastic throughout October. As I write this report, a bit of Fall’s gloomy weather appears to have caught up with us after an, otherwise, enjoyable stretch of weather over the past month. This is the time of year where your visit to Myrtle Beach for a wedding or golf trip is best complimented with an inshore fishing charter. It is my favorite time of year for South Carolina fishing.
Speckled trout fishing has been solid since early September, catching over 30 fish on some days. Live shrimp and artificial baits have been productive targeting trout around Debordieu and Pawley’s Island. There was one foggy morning where we caught them on topwater until 11 o’clock in the morning! Speckled trout are aggressively feeding this time of year as they prepare themselves for winter.
The running of the Bulls (redfish) has been outstanding so far this fall, and we will look for it to continue in early November. Redfish generally leave our local estuaries around the age of 4 years old as they reach maturity. This means there are only 3 generations of resident fish in our local ecosystem at any given time. We are sure to practice conservation on this species so our clients will always have some to catch. We are having double digit days catching these hard fighting fish.
Beginning in November, the redfish will begin to school up; and we will be targeting trout almost exclusively with artificials. This is the time of year to see what fishing South Carolina is all about. If you plan to visit, be sure to make some time for an inshore fishing charter.
