June has been a tricky month in Murrells Inlet, specifically due to dodging storms in between fishing trips. The weather has caused the bite to be on the finicky side more often than not, but as we round out the month and head into July – big things are on the horizon.

Murrells Inlet Fishing July 2021

Looking forward to July (just a day away!) we will see continued action with some of the most popular inshore and nearshore species, alongside preparations for the 2021 tarpon fishing season.

Early Summer Inshore & Nearshore Fishing At Murrells Inlet

Flounder and redfish fishing has been top-notch during the month of June – and this is expected to stretch right through July as well. Alongside, shots at black drum are still possible, and we will continue to see high activity with seatrout and sheepshead.

Looking at nearshore areas, we have and will continue to see good fishing for both Spanish mackerel and kingfish.

In the mix, rounding out some of the top producing species during this season, are sharks and cobia.

2021 Tarpon Season Prep For Murrells Inlet

As we get into the season for Tarpon fishing in Murrells Inlet, we have to look at the annual migration along the coast. Reports of heightened tarpon fishing along both of Florida’s coastlines (the first state to see the yearly migration) have occurred throughout June and are still happening right now – this includes the coastlines at the northernmost parts of those areas.

This puts the migration on track for our regular season tarpon fishing to land “in the zone”. We generally can start seeing tarpon as early as June (or even late May), the area peaks in the months of August and September. This can stretch all the way until October – but that all depends on the onset of winter weather.

“Had a great day fishing with Captain Rich! He knows the area like the back of his hand. We talked to a few other boats out fishing…nobody was catching much. He took us to one of his spots and bam! He is very professional and his boat is well equipped. I would highly recommend him if you want a great charter. Thanks again, Captain Rich!”
