Michelle, and husband Mike, have made two trips to the Florida Keys in pursuit of tarpon; but they were still looking for their first official catch. Mike called to book a tarpon trip during their trip to Pawley’s Island, SC. After a brief explanation, I knew they understood the most important thing in tarpon fishing: If you want to catch a tarpon, you have to fish for them.
I knew they were serious when they agreed with my advice to head out at 6am! We were quickly able to find the ideal bait and head to the fishing grounds.
It was definitely a strange bite as the tarpon seemed a bit finicky. We had one soft hit that spit the hook without ever taking any drag. Then came the second bite where I decided to take the rod and strike the fish. Fish on! Michelle got her first tarpon in South Carolina!
