We saw a new moon, this week, which can often call for tough fishing; but we managed to work around it with excellent results. I had a couple of families who came down from Pawleys Island and Myrtle Beach for a Winyah Bay fishing charter.
The first group went fishing with us on Tuesday, and we had great topwater action as mentioned in my previous report. If you have never experienced catching saltwater trout or redfish on topwater, you should give me a call to get a taste of how exciting it can be.
After missing Wednesday due to weather, I had another family who wanted to improve their odds of catching fish by booking a fishing charter. David, Katherine and Kay are frequent visitors to Pawleys Island. They’ve had some tough luck fishing on their own, in the past, but that changed today.
It was a pleasant day with overcast skies taming the hot temperatures we’ve seen, recently. There was a light North wind which also contributed to the mild temperatures.
Live shrimp have been hard to find for past couple of weeks for no particular reason; however, I was able to locate some this morning. They weren’t very thick, but we got enough for bait after tossing the cast net many times.
We pulled up to the first spot and BAM!.. trout in the boat! They couldn’t believe it haha. The trout bite was on, and live shrimp was what they wanted. We went on to catch 9 nice fish, and returned to the dock to clean the 7 we kept.
It was a pleasure having these families visit us during their vacation, and it is a great feeling being able to put them on some fish. If you are visiting South Carolina along the Grand Strand, give me a call so I can try to add another memory to your vacation.
