On the southern end of South Carolina’s Grand Strand, nestled off the coast of Georgetown, is the Winyah Bay fishery. This is the heart of Georgetown fishing charters and here in the Spring of 2021, we are marking the start of stellar warm weather fishing!

What To Expect During Spring 2021 Fishing In Georgetown

Winyah Bay is the center point of inshore fishing here in Georgetown. Winyah Bay is a coastal estuary system that spans over 1000 square miles as is the nation’s third largest watershed on the east coast. It is a mix of saltmarsh and oyster beds that is fed by four major rivers.

This is all significant to note as these are the ingredients to an extremely active inshore fishery. While this area is home to year-round fishing, as the waters warm during the spring, we start to see the introduction of a few warm-weather favorites.

Moving towards the SC coastline out of Winyah Bay you wind up in a nearshore fishery that rivals its offshore counterparts. This is a short boat ride from Georgetown and can get you into offshore quality fishing in just minutes. Along this part of the coast, you will find that fishing over wrecks and reefs will net you great quality fish, but this is also situated near the Gulf Stream which means pelagic fishing opportunities exist as well.

When you combine a river-fed estuary system with direct coastal access, you will soon find that Georgetown fishing charters have a lot to offer those seeking an awesome fishing opportunity during the spring.
